Call for Applications: 2015 Nuclear Scholars

Addressing an increasingly complex array of nuclear weapons challenges in the future will require talented young people with the necessary technical and policy expertise to contribute to sound decision-making on nuclear issues over time. To that end, the CSIS Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) runs a yearly Nuclear Scholars Initiative for graduate students and young professionals. Those accepted into the program are hosted once per month at CSIS in Washington, DC, where they participate in daylong workshops with senior government officials and policy experts. Over the course of the 6-month program, Scholars are required to prepare a research paper, which they will be given the opportunity to present to a panel of experts and later publish in a journal produced by CSIS. Travel costs for participants living outside the Washington, DC area are covered.

January 2015 – June 2015

Candidates must be either pursuing a graduate degree or no more than two years into their professional careers post-graduate school.
Those eligible must submit the following materials by November 14, 2014:

1. Cover Letter detailing interests in nuclear issues, relevant professional and academic experiences, and career goals.
Please note in your cover letter if you will require travel support and from which city you will be traveling.
2. Resume or CV listing complete educational and professional data and relevant extracurricular and research activities
3. Two-page Proposal outlining the nuclear issue(s) to be investigated in a research paper, if selected for the program
